Guwahati Eye Hospital & Research Centre offers patients a series of examinations (from the simple to the more complex) that test vision, the function of the eyes and which also look at the health of the overall vision system. Together, these examinations provide a comprehensive view of the state of the patient’s vision and eye health.

Optometric Examination:


Optometrists are trained professionals who examine eyes, test sight, give advice on visual problems, and prescribe and dispense spectacles or contact lenses. They also recommend other treatments or visual aids where appropriate. They are trained to recognize eye disease, and refer patients to medical practitioners as necessary. Optometrists study at university for at least three years and participate in a full year of training and supervision, before qualifying.
Our optometric examination is an assessment performed our specialist optometrist that might include all or some of the following:
Refraction, prescription of spectacles, prescription of contact lenses and ongoing assessment of contact lenses.

Orthoptic Examination:


An Orthoptics is an allied health professional who specializes in eye movement problems and disorders that effect how the eyes work together. These conditions are typically diagnosed in childhood; therefore Orthoptics are highly experienced examining children of all ages. In countries such as the US or UK the orthoptist, working hand in hand with an ophthalmologist, commonly plays a central role in the evaluation and treatment of childhood eye disorders.

Ophthalmic Eye Examination


An ophthalmologist is “a physician who specializes in the medical and surgical care of the eyes and visual system and in the prevention of eye disease and injury. They provide a full spectrum of care including routine eye exams, diagnosis and medical treatment of eye disorders and diseases, prescriptions for eyeglasses, surgery, and management of eye problems that are caused by systemic illnesses.
